Bohemian Sip and Paint

Dancing my brush over a canvas as I listen to the Carribean waves lap the shore, I heard words that will stick with me forever.

As I click book on the "Bohemian Sip and Paint" excursion offered by our cruise line, I can almost smell the paint. I've always thought red paint and blue paint smell completely different. At this time in March, I hadn't picked up a brush since last September. I did the math for you, that's six months. I wondered if I wouldn't remember how to hold the brush (I know, silly me) or if the class would seem monotonous to all the other sip and paint classes I've partaken in (I ended up thoroughly enjoying each one) or even if it would be too hot to think creatively (I do NOT do well with sweating). When it came down to clicking the button though, the acrylic was basically screaming my name and I truly had no other choice. I would regret it for the entire trip if I didn't do it.

Waiting on the class to begin, hot it was. But every so often a nice cool breeze would blow through the cabana, just for me I'm sure. I picked up the brush and it slid right into place in my hand, as if it was molded to my posture. The instructor began giving instructions and I, humbly, zoned out. The process felt like riding a bike and soon enough it looked exactly as I pictured it.

One thing I love about these kinds of classes, is that no matter how well each student follows the instructions (or doesn't) each piece seems unique, but also connected - like fraternal twins.

As I swished my brush in the paint water and chatted with one of the excursion leaders about how I haven't painted in so long, she said the words that I won't forget...

"You should pick up painting again, it misses you."
